The Ethics of Photographic Practice
Who gets to speak for or about others with photographs?
The ethical issues (awareness, intent, consent etc.) provoked by this question have implications for anyone who does photographic work with people – academic, domestic, street, documentary, commercial, journalistic, portraiture, travel and so on. Phillip Joy and David Neilsen will initiate our discussion of these issues through brief overviews of the ethical considerations of their photographic work with people in academic and artistic contexts.
This promises to be a lively evening. Hope you’ll join us.
Phillip Joy is a photographic artist and PhD student in Human Nutrition at Dalhousie University.
David Neilsen is a musical sound artist and Research Master of Arts graduate of Mount Saint Vincent University.
